Hello to my Family,

This is a new era for the Legion Family. I am your new Commander Charles “Dusty” Keane. I should tell you a little about myself. Some of you know me as Chuck or Chuckie that was my father’s name. I go by Dusty now, my grandmother first called me this name when I was six hours old.  I grew up in the Warner Springs area, I am a Julian High School graduate and a United States Marine for twenty-two years as well as active Reserves. I have been a member of our Legion since 2001 and I was given the opportunity to be your Sergeant of Arms for the past four years until becoming your Commander.

There are a lot of things that I would like to do, the first and foremost is to get our Legion Family (Legion, SAL and Auxiliary) to work together as one. Meaning that whatever happened before my tenure as your Commander I cannot change. We could however strive to make things better. Not that they were bad before. Family means strong and loyal ties, but without the support from the Legion Family it will be for not.

I came off the Legion bus running from Art Beaudry’s impromptu retirement party to the Memorial Day Ceremony and the 4th of July Party.  There will be memorable functions and events to come, starting with the Family installation on the 13th of June 2009, 10:00 a.m. at our Post, followed by an installation party that kicks off at 4:00 p.m. I would like to publicly thank the women of the Auxiliary Family for great spread of food and their support on that day. The Family plans to continue for special dinners and events throughout the year including another reservation only steak and lobster dinner in August. Please check the Legion’s website or call the Post for reservation information.

As all of you know we have new Officers in Legion and Auxiliary. Lori Arter not new to the Legion has assumed the position of President of Auxiliary. SAL Officers have remained the same as last year. This year will be fun as we all become one Family under the same roof.

I want to thank you again, let’s have fun and enjoy the year or years to come as one.
